HP Promo ZR2740w 27-inch LED Backlit IPS Monitor Reviews
27 of 29 people found the following review helpful Beautiful, Large Screen, November 20, 2011 By Stanley Fu (Irvine, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: HP Promo ZR2740w 27-inch LED Backlit IPS Monitor (Personal Computers) I settled on this monitor after debating for a bit on a few different aspects, including the monitor size and manufacturer. After settling on the ZR2740w that was ordered from Amazon for me as an early Christmas present, I definitely came away happy and not disappointed, although there are definitely some aspects to get used to for anyone upgrading from something smaller. Some quick points:
-An IPS monitor was a must for me, and this was a bit cheaper then the Dell U2711, so this won out.
-The ultra high resolution takes some getting used to. I came from a 22" monitor at 1680x1050, so the jump to 2560x1440 was quite a difference. Text and window sizes are pretty small at this resolution, which can take some adjustment. Other 27" monitors with TN panels typically use 1920x1080, so be aware that this is even higher and sharper.
-I don't have any major gaming issues. It's no 120hz gaming panel, but as a gamer I'm able to play Modern Warfare 3 or Starcraft 2... Read more
13 of 14 people found the following review helpful Dead after 5 weeks, January 26, 2012 This review is from: HP Promo ZR2740w 27-inch LED Backlit IPS Monitor (Personal Computers) Well, 5 days after the e-tailer's return policy expires - in the middle of a complex re-factoring project - this monitor just up and dies. Half second of weirdness, then complete power loss. Will have to deal directly w/HP on the replacement.
Before that, coding was a virtual dream... but for a couple things that may sound familiar. 1) Out of the box, the color temperature was rather green, not just a little, but noticeably green. Correctable, though. 2) The anti-glare coating is indeed awful. Really ruins what would otherwise be crisp text. Truly sad. 3) The dot pitch is a tad fine - what can I say, my eyes aren't what they used to be...
But, the LED back-lighting works great - no "barely imperceptible" flicker. Amazing brightness, good contrast and great colors. Low heat, low power consumption and 2 second start ups. Solid construction, sturdy stand. Finally, 2560 x 1440 resolution - the only justification this monitor needs, at this price. Will... Read more
6 of 6 people found the following review helpful Excellent Monitor. Average service, January 5, 2012 By This review is from: HP Promo ZR2740w 27-inch LED Backlit IPS Monitor (Personal Computers) I purchased this ZR2740W from another vendor. It failed after 35 days of service. HP customer service promised prompt replacement (technician to my office), but missed their promise by 2 days. Thus, minus 1 star. It was replaced with a new monitor.
Pros:
* Magnificent color. Haven't calibrated the new (replacement), yet
* Of course, excellent resolution. (I used an old, small HDTV while I was waiting -- horrible compared to this.)
* Several good inputs: Display port (which I use), and DVI-D (which I've tried). Front panel permits switching between. (Good for multiple computers/1 monitor.) The smaller versions(20"- 24") have HDMI and VGA, also.
* It has a USB 2.0 hub, should you need it.
* Cable lock provision, if needed.
* The serial number is actually visible from the front (pull-out service card), so you don't have to turn it upside down and sideways to find the sn.
* Decent cable routing through the mounting base.
* The... Read more
