HP ZR30w 30-inch S-IPS LCD Monitor Reviews
55 of 58 people found the following review helpful ZR30W, the best screen I've ever seen., September 3, 2010 This review is from: HP ZR30w 30-inch S-IPS LCD Monitor (Electronics) After a few hours playing with my new ZR30W, the results are in!
I've tested images and gaming of the ZR30W versus the other monitors on my desk; the LG W3000H 30", BenQ G2400W 24" and Viewsonic's VX2265WM 120Hz 22". I have not yet color calibrated the screen with my Spyder 3 Elite.
First impressions:
The ZR30W came in a real nice thick quality well packed shipping box.
The Bezel around the screen is just a tad thicker than I was imagining in my head, just a few millimeters shorter than the LG W3000H. One positive to the HP bezel though is it's the same width on all four sides which is helpful if you ever want to do portrait multi-display.
The stand is nice and wide with a decent heft. Just plain matte black plastic, the LG's is a little fancier and has a piano black gloss base.
There is not as much vertical adjustment on the HP as I would have wanted. Especially for us taller people, it's nice to have a screen that can raise pretty high. The... Read more
18 of 18 people found the following review helpful Um, yeah. As a gaming monitor, this thing rocks., April 14, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: HP ZR30w 30-inch S-IPS LCD Monitor (Electronics) Ok, I'm a gaming fanatic. I like high frame rates, low input lag, nice color range, and high resolution. I was willing to put up with a little bit of input lag for the sake of the massive resolution and color range you get with the ZR30w. But, having played a whole bunch of games (including ALL of the Crysis titles, all recent CoD titles, BC2, Just Cause 2, and, of course, ME2) on it for well over a month, I haven't noticed any increase in lag or ghosting. (And I was looking.) And I upgraded from a Samsung 2493HM, which is known to be a very, very responsive 1920x1200 monitor. (Frame rates weren't adversely affected either, but, hmmmmmmm, that's probably due to upgrading to two GTX 580's in SLI.)
Granted, there are faster monitors out there. But they have about half the pixels! And they can't compete with the color contrast and vibrancy of this monitor, either. (As you'll notice if you read some of the other reviews of the ZR30w, some think its colors are oversaturated. I... Read more
22 of 23 people found the following review helpful Beyond Expectations!, August 4, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: HP ZR30w 30-inch S-IPS LCD Monitor (Electronics) I hooked this up just a few hours ago to my Win7, 64-bit PC with Nvidia Quadro 3800 graphics card via the Display Port connection. All I can say is; I'm in big monitor heaven! I've had a 27" Dell 1900x1200 monitor for years (the fine 2707 that they no longer sell), and that was always a beautiful screen. But this new HP monitor is in another world entirely.
Out of the box, I noticed it was a bit blue-ish and seemed a bit over-driven. Of course, that's going to be relative depending upon graphics card settings. Since this monitor has no internal color or tone controls, it relies on the driver settings from your graphics card. This should pose no real problem, as all the controls anyone would need can be accessed from the software. But I ran a calibration on it using my Eye One Display 2 colorimeter, and that balanced the appearance to a more neutral look.
As this is my first 2560x1600 monitor, that much desktop real estate is going to take a while to get... Read more
