The only monitor I want, January 25, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: NEC Display Solutions PA241W-BK 24.1-Inch 8ms(GTG) 16ms 360 cd/m2 1000:1 Widescreen LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics) I have the 27-inch version of the monitor at work, which made this the only choice when it came time to buy a new monitor for home. (The 27-inch is both too big and too pricey for my home use.) I am a photographer, graphic designer and web designer, and I've never seen a monitor that comes close to matching photo lab prints before the NEC. Sending out photos (and now doing them at home on a Canon Pixma Pro printer) is a real crap-shoot without an excellent monitor showing you what you need to see.
That said, there's no point in getting this monitor if you're not going to spring for the calibrator that goes with it. Sure it's added expense, but if you want or need this quality, you have to spend it. In my case I'm lucky that I can share the calibrator between home and work. If I couldn't do that, I would have had to up the price and go for the calibration unit. And DON'T GET A CHEAP CALIBRATOR that doesn't match the monitor. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Great Value compared to Eizo and actually a bit better... for print and web!, February 5, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: NEC Display Solutions PA241W-BK 24.1-Inch 8ms(GTG) 16ms 360 cd/m2 1000:1 Widescreen LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics) As a professional photographer and retoucher with an Eizo at the office, when I saw this had similar specs at half the price I jumped. In color managed workspaces working with embedded icc profiles in Photoshop and other programs, you can't tell the difference with the eizo. Incredibly accurate to the true image, matches prints RGB and CMYK. But in non-managed color spaces like websites without embedded profiles, everything looks positively radioactive, while my Eizo still presents a slightly more accurate picture in these situations. But... this monitor also has selectable picture modes so I can switch to "sRGB mode" and view my untagged images on a web site and see exactly what a PC user sees on their monitor on my mac! I love it! It's perfect since the images were converted to sRGB anyway for the masses when they are processed for web.
This NEC also goes through some sort of self calibration in the first few seconds of starting up which is pretty noticeable. I got the... Read more
